How can I join the team?

You can join the application process for the team by mailing your resume and motivation letter in either Dutch or English via the application form on the page: https://www.solarteam.nl/apply. The application deadline is May 1st at 23:59.

What’s the process and timeline of the application?

The application process involves multiple rounds with selection procedures after every round. The first interview is meant to get to know you and what motivates you to join Solar Team Twente. The second round involves working on a case where we test your skills for the positions you applied for, as well as an additional interview. The total application process will take a month.

What positions are available?

You can find all positions at https://www.solarteam.nl/apply/positions/.

How long does the edition last? (And when can I continue my studies again?)

An edition lasts just over a year. The upcoming edition begins in September 2026 and ends at the Rallye du Maroc in September or October 2027. Due to the event schedule, the edition overlaps with the first month of the first quartile of the academic year of 2027-2028. After the race, it is up to you to either choose to directly continue with your studies or to take some time off!

Is Solar Team Twente a part-time or full-time commitment?

Becoming a team member at Solar Team Twente is generally a full-time commitment. The possibility of a part-time position is considered on a case-by-case basis. Of course, you can always apply even if you only consider joining part-time. Do I get financial compensation when I join the team?

Becoming a team member at Solar Team Twente is voluntary, so you will not be paid. Depending on your personal situation, it is possible to get a reimbursement of your tuition fees, both as a student at the University of Twente or at Saxion University of Applied Sciences. Can I get study credits when I join Solar Team Twente?

It is generally not possible to still follow courses whilst being a team member at Solar Team Twente (there are exceptions). However, it is possible to get study credits by using your year at Solar Team Twente for one or multiple minors or internships. This does, however, heavily depend on your personal situation. We therefore recommend contacting your study advisor to discuss the possibilities for getting study credits.

Will my expenses for the rally race be covered?

The expenses for your two-way trip and stay while being abroad for the rally race are covered by Solar Team Twente. If you want to extend your stay after the race as a holiday, you have to cover this yourself.

Can I join if I do not have a Dutch nationality?

Yes, that is not a problem. All team members speak fluent English.

Can I join if I am not a student?

No, you must be enrolled at the University of Twente, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, or ROC van Twente if you want to join Solar Team Twente.

Can I join a position that is different from my study orientation?

Definitely! The most important requirements for a position are eagerness to learn and enthusiasm. Nobody has experience building a car when they start, so being able to adapt and learn is vital. If you have any questions about a position, you can also talk to us in-person at one of our upcoming events or contact us via info@solarteam.nl. Finally, you can also apply for an open position. We will then discuss together what position would best suit you.

My study is not an engineering study. Do you also have positions suitable for me?

Yes, we have many positions that focus on different aspects than pure engineering, such as within the management team and the marketing & communications team.  And you can even apply for the engineering positions as well if that is something that sparks your interest. Why should I join Solar Team Twente?

Are you interested in expanding your horizon? Do you want a challenge? Do you want to work in a multidisciplinary team? These are all things you can find at Solar Team Twente. We are the oldest and largest student team at the University of Twente. We push the boundaries of solar energy, electronics, and mechanics to make the best possible race car.

Solar Team Twente has a large partner network with which you can gain valuable experience about the industry and get in contact with companies. Additionally, Solar Team Twente has an active alumni network that provides advice and actively supports you in your journey.

What will my time at Solar Team Twente look like?

While people experience many different things at Solar Team Twente, your time at Solar Team Twente will definitely be an experience of a lifetime! What are the requirements to apply for Solar Team Twente?

A requirement to join Solar Team Twente is being enrolled at the University of Twente, Hogeschool Saxion, or ROC van Twente and having a positive binding study recommendation. Furthermore, being part of the teams means physically being able to be present in Enschede for most of the year. Working from home is not an option.

Can I meet with a team member to discuss whether Solar Team Twente would suit me?
