The 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge brought major regulation changes. Cars could carry 6 m² of solar panels, but only a battery a third of the previous size, making them far more dependent on the sun. The race also moved to the Australian winter, meaning less sunlight, harsher weather, and a shorter build schedule.
Team 2025 developed RED Discover, the most optimized car yet featuring a record breaking 27%+ of solar panel efficiency. and with it finished in second place in the closest finish in the history of the World Solar Challenge only 300 meters behind their competitors on a 3000 km race.
2024
In 2024, Solar Team Twente’s first Innovation Team was put together for the Sasol Solar Challenge in South Africa. With a focus on innovation and long term planning, Solar Team Twente managed to finish second in their debut at the ‘most challenging solar challenge in the world’!
