The experience of Esmee
Being part of Solar Team Twente was so much more than a project next to my studies. As the Event Manager, I found myself right in the middle of a team where everything revolves around collaboration, planning, and creating moments that truly bring our story to life. The moment that stood out above everything else was the Innovation Reveal. Presenting our solar car in front of hundreds of people, the car we would eventually take to South Africa, gave me an incredible rush. Standing there, feeling the excitement and pride in the room, I realised: we actually made this happen together.
In this role, I learned how to build an event from the ground up: planning, organising, coordinating with partners, leading team members, and making sure the atmosphere matched what we wanted to show as a team. You’re constantly surrounded by people who are just as motivated as you are, and that energy is contagious. It’s intense, but that’s exactly why you grow so quickly.
What I take with me from my time at Solar Team Twente isn’t just the organisational skills. It’s the teamwork, the leadership, the ability to perform under pressure, and the feeling of creating something you’ll never forget. As a student, you rarely get the chance to take on this level of responsibility, and that makes it truly unforgettable.
